Music Ceremony or Sangeet ceremony, as the name itself connotes is all about dance and music as part of any wedding event. It happens to be one of the most enjoyable ceremonies before the wedding ceremony and is mainly participated by the women folk of the family & friends. Earlier, the musical party was arranged only by the bride's family but with changing times, it is now being observed by the groom's family also. Initially, it was a ritual which was mainly visible in North Indian weddings, but nowadays it is quite a familiar sight in Bengali and South Indian marriages as well.

Usually, the Sangeet ceremony is held a few days before main marriage ceremony and comes as a time for joy and laughter amidst the hectic hustling bustling activities surrounding marriage preparations. Traditionally, the family of the bride invites female relatives and associates for Ladies music, wherein all of them sing folk songs dedicated to marriage and would-be-bride. It is accompanied with Dholak and spoon, for the traditional tune and beat in true sense. Once this ritual gets over, all the other ladies especially unmarried girls perform dance on different songs, may be on latest bollywood hits & tunes.

Amidst all these celebrations, women crack jokes, tease the bride, merrily talk about their own youthful days. They also bless the girl for a happy and prosperous married life. The whole environment sometimes becomes emotional as the bride and her mother experience the moments of separation from family & each other. After all the dance and singing is done, it’s time for refreshment- i.e. sumptuous food and beverages. It mainly contains a number of snacks and sweet dishes. Participants enjoy themselves to the fullest, making the whole atmosphere light & funny.
